VTT to SRT Converter

Bring WebVTT captions to a player or editing app that expects SRT. Convert the file locally, without an upload.

Files stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. No account. No installation.

What your SRT keeps

Cue text, time values, order and line breaks carry over. Each cue gets a consecutive number, and timestamp fractions use the comma required by SRT.

Both short WebVTT timestamps and full hour-based timestamps are accepted. The output uses HH:MM:SS,mmm consistently.

What SRT cannot carry

WebVTT regions, cue settings, comments and STYLE blocks are not part of the SRT structure. Web-specific voice, class and timestamp tags are removed from the portable text.

Keep the original VTT if those details matter, or use the subtitle editor to edit it without changing the format.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to VTT positioning and regions?

SRT cannot represent WebVTT regions, cue positioning, STYLE blocks or most web-specific tags. Those features are removed during conversion while dialogue and cue timing remain. Keep your VTT original if you need its presentation settings for a web video player.

Are minute-only WebVTT timestamps supported?

Yes. Both MM:SS.mmm and HH:MM:SS.mmm timestamps are accepted in valid VTT cues. The SRT output uses an hours field and comma-separated milliseconds consistently, so a timestamp such as 00:01.500 becomes 00:00:01,500.

Does the output include cue numbers?

Yes. The converter writes consecutive numeric cue identifiers starting at 1, followed by each timestamp range and its subtitle text. Existing WebVTT cue identifiers are not used as SRT numbers. The cue order remains the same as in your original file.

Can this tool turn a video into an SRT file?

No. It requires an existing WebVTT text file with timed captions. It does not accept video files or transcribe speech. Export the captions from your editing platform as VTT, then use this tool to convert them into SRT.
