Subtitle Editor
Fine-tune the words and timing of your subtitles, directly in your browser.
Make the words fit the moment
Edit each cue’s text and start and end times in one place. A timing shift moves the entire file forward or backward without changing the duration of individual cues.
For a new language, start with the subtitle translation tool, then bring the downloaded result here for a final timing pass.
Keep the file your player expects
Original-format export preserves untouched headers, styles and metadata. For a different player, choose SRT, VTT or SBV and check the format warning before downloading.
Use the subtitle converter for a conversion-only workflow, or convert SRT to VTT for an HTML video track.
A practical editing checklist
- Check a cue against the actual dialogue before adjusting its timing.
- Keep names, punctuation and terminology consistent from the first scene to the last.
- Use a natural phrase boundary for line breaks; do not split a person’s name.
- Save a downloaded copy before closing the tab. Edits are held in browser memory.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the subtitle timing?
Yes. Edit a cue’s start and end timestamps, or apply a millisecond offset to every cue at once. A positive offset moves captions later; a negative offset moves them earlier. Downloads are blocked if a cue ends before it starts or falls outside the valid timeline.
Will editing an ASS file remove its styles?
Choose Original as the output format to retain the script header, style definitions, dialogue fields and override tags. Edit the words around those tags carefully. Exporting as SRT or SBV removes formatting that those formats cannot represent, and the tool shows a warning before you download.
Can I preview the subtitles over a video?
This editor provides a text and timing view. Video playback and burned-in captions are outside the current version. After editing, open the downloaded subtitle file alongside your video in a player to check dialogue synchronization and line readability.
Is my edited file saved automatically?
Edits remain in memory in this browser tab and are not uploaded or saved to an account. Download the file before reloading, closing the tab or opening another subtitle file. Keep a separate copy of the original if you may need to revert your changes.
