The three parts of an SRT cue

A cue contains a number, a start and end time, and one or more lines of text. A blank line separates it from the next cue. Translation works on the text segments and leaves the surrounding structure in place.

After a batch completes, the target language becomes part of the download name: the-journey.fr.srt.

Review for meaning and reading time

Short captions give a translation service limited context. Check names and idioms, then shorten wording that takes too long to read. The tool does not automatically extend your timestamps.

Adjust timings in the subtitle editor, convert the result to VTT, or review the English subtitle guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are SRT cue numbers and timestamps handled?

Translation changes only text segments. Original cue numbers, timing lines, line breaks and supported formatting tags remain in the file when you download it as SRT. The comparison panel displays each cue’s timestamps so you can check that the translation still belongs to the same moment.

Why are accented letters showing as replacement characters?

Your file may use an older text encoding. Save the original as UTF-8 in a text or subtitle editor and upload it again. Files containing unreadable replacement characters are rejected so that a damaged source is not silently translated into a plausible but incorrect result.

Can I translate a folder of SRT files?

You can select multiple SRT files using your browser’s file picker or drag up to 20 files into the tool. Each file can be up to 1 MB. The batch uses one target language, and completed translations can be downloaded together as a ZIP.

What if a translated line is too long?

Shorten the wording or add a line break in the translation field before downloading. A literal translation may take longer to read than the original dialogue. This tool retains your timing rather than stretching cues automatically, so review the result against the actual video.
